TODAY IN CANADIAN MILITARY HISTORY

1944 - Major John Mahony of the Westminister Regiment was a constant source of inspiration and determination as he tirelessly organized the defence, visited his men in their positions, and personally directed the fire of the light anti-tank weapons on hand near the Melfa River, Italy. For his actions Major Mahony earned the Victoria Cross.
