Re: Grandmother Mary Crabb hoping to find World War II heroes who saved her life

Phil, it may be worth reaching out to retired Shilo gunners - I've seen a fair amount of discussion that Sgt Brackett transferred to the regular army after the war and served in Shilo.

I'll investigate from my end.

Re: Grandmother Mary Crabb hoping to find World War II heroes who saved her life

BLUF: It was soldiers from "Q" or "Queen" Bty, 71 Fd Bty (previously 71/133 Fd Bty) that found Mary that day, clearly in line with the activation batteries of the three soldiers. I spent a good part of the last 24 hours looking through war diaries. Sadly, it appears that the "letters" of the batteri...

Re: Grandmother Mary Crabb hoping to find World War II heroes who saved her life

Kevin, I missed your discussion about Q Bty in your last reply. (For others, Kevin referenced the following website http://www.spiritofcanada.com/veterans/stories/open.php?type=rca&target=ddayDodger) I had already asked the Royal Regiment historians if we could confirm if it was 61 or 71 that was ca...

Re: Grandmother Mary Crabb hoping to find World War II heroes who saved her life

According to the Guide to Sources (https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/Documents/RG9-59_EN_final.pdf), 113th Fd Bty converted to 113th AT Bty of 7th AT Regt on 1 Jan 1941, the same date 61, 71 and 107 Fd Bty's are documented as returning to separate batteries. It would appear th...

Re: Grandmother Mary Crabb hoping to find World War II heroes who saved her life

Kevin, you are completely correct about 113 Bty - I dug into the History document to remind myself. Page 3. of the unofficial history I posted earlier has the details. In October 1940 the 61/107 and 71/113 batteries were broken into three batteries (61, 71, 107 Btys) of two troops each and 113 Bty l...

Re: Grandmother Mary Crabb hoping to find World War II heroes who saved her life

It was user "reynolds12" who posted the embarkation dates on page 3, and hopefully he can look at the Griffin date too. From an originating battery perspective, I can provide the following: 61 Fd Bty activated out of Edmonton, AB 107 Fd Bty activated out of Cranbrook, BC 71 Fd Bty activated out of B...

Re: Grandmother Mary Crabb hoping to find World War II heroes who saved her life

Terrace would tie in nicely with 107 Fd Bty from Cranbrook too. I've got contacts with the Legion and 61/107 Bty Association out there. I'll reach out and let you know what I find.

Re: Grandmother Mary Crabb hoping to find World War II heroes who saved her life

I also think we need to add the tracking down of Lt Webb to the list of people. He apparently accompanied everyone to the hospital. Based on traffic at the Royal Regiment level, we do not believe this is Lt Webb of Juno Beach historical fame (may he RIP), but a different Webb.

Re: Grandmother Mary Crabb hoping to find World War II heroes who saved her life

Hello all. I got informed about this topic by the Royal Regiment Major! I've previously posted on FB on this topic, and the text of the post is below. I also have some connections in Cranbrook with the 61/107 Bty Alumni, who perpetuate the twinned batteries from the start of the war. Finally, I've h...
