Re: Qualification symbology
Unfortunately to date we have not had any success in deciphering the dual square tactical symbols on the turret. We know the square means B Sqn but why two? FYI, HOLY ROLLER went to B Sqn OC's call sign on or around D+5. We have found this through several of the veterans information we have received...

Tactical Symbols
Hi Trying to find rational reason or more information on possible "unknown" tactical symbols. HOLY ROLLER came back from NWE in 1946 with dual B Squadron tac symbols painted on the side of the turret. From a photo taken in Europe it shows similar, does anyone have an idea or direction? HolyRoller re...

Re: Qualification symbology
Regarding the numbering of the callsigns. Zulu callsigns were for training in the UK, that is they painted those alphanumeric codes on the turret, not for the invasion. Some British armoured units painted the callsigns on the turrets but from everything I can find and have read, we didn't. Some grea...

Re: Qualification symbology
Some great information there. The one Sherman tank, sorry I am a bit a novice with the variations, but the rounded or cast hull was used by the British, never the Canadians. The original photo is of HOLY ROLLER the week it returned to London, via CPR. This is the photo we all started asking the ques...

Qualification symbology
Hello all. Once again on bended knee I cast my question(s) out the greater minds. I'm putting together on a spreadsheet the TOS/SOS of the soldiers of the Regiment (1H). I see the following Dvr Mech (TK) C. I get it as driver tank mechanic pay grade C? When there is a MV in the parenthesis = motor v...

Re: Map of Force’J’ LST Anchorage Positions in Southampton Area
Thanks. Group 333 = LCT405,Group 332 = LCT65,199,238. The following groups must be in the same zone Group 311(a),312(b),315(a),313(a), 315(c) with a total of 14 actual LCT's within those groups. Reviewing this site it appears you are the guru or wizard of finding information. I do have a needle in a...

Re: Map of Force’J’ LST Anchorage Positions in Southampton Area
Temujin, thank you for the staggering amount of information. Time to have a beverage and do some reading. Based on the information that I have and that you have on line, I'm counting 14 LCT's or 5 LCT groups missing in the berthing documentation. Dare I say would it be safe to assume that all of the...
