Re: Stone at Tyne Cot Cemetery
Years of fighting in the same area led to known graves being disturbed/destroyed. Known as a 'Special Memorial', they are mentioned briefly on the CWGC.org page for Tyne Cot, there are a significant number there. If you look him up on that site, you may be able to piece together a bit more through t...

Re: Confusion with RCAF airman
Doesn't match with how I would pronounce those names, but could one possibly be a phonetic mixup with a slightly odd pronunciation? Alternatively, a bad transcription from some kind of hand-written list? If for example I only saw the Weight spelling once, I might lean to one of those options. If you...

Re: Joseph Samuel ELKO SM93311 RCE
I suspect 482B is a unit serial, but have been unable to find any mention of it. Clive Law published a reference for all unit serials but it's out of print.

Re: Passive Air Defence
Sorry for the thread hijack, splitting was a good idea. Interesting digression, something I'll keep an eye out for. I don't recall ever seeing anything about PAD in infantry WDs, so maybe something a Field Coy was tasked with in a Brigade area? A few pairs of sappers sprinkled around the countryside?

Passive Air Defence
That's what I arrived at too. Passive air defence seems to be mostly about siting, concealment, camouflage etc., so beyond the scope of a section of men. In our context, basically sentries against air attack?

Re: D 15141 Sgt Paul Barrette, Royal Canadian Engineer
Temujin, Any idea what P.A.D. duty is? Was looking for Barrette in those entries as they name the Platoon and usually the NCO in charge. Which entry was it Kevin……I’m not sure I’ve ever heard that acronym before Let me see if I can find anything on P.A.D. Duty Third and fourth images in your post t...

Re: D 15141 Sgt Paul Barrette, Royal Canadian Engineer
Made an unsuccessful pass through the War Diaries to see if I could find any details. While he's mentioned regularly as Duty Sgt, nothing I could see on which Platoon he was in. Checked Jan 44-Jun 44 and June 43, Sept 43 (the dates he was appointed A/Sgt and confirmed Sgt). Might be worth a closer l...
