Re: D 15141 Sgt Paul Barrette, Royal Canadian Engineer

Made an unsuccessful pass through the War Diaries to see if I could find any details. While he's mentioned regularly as Duty Sgt, nothing I could see on which Platoon he was in. Checked Jan 44-Jun 44 and June 43, Sept 43 (the dates he was appointed A/Sgt and confirmed Sgt). Might be worth a closer l...

Re: P/O Francis Marsh Bathen

Just confirming no info on a DFC in Canadian records, so it was a UK award.

Re: Researching Romeo R. Fluery

You are correct. Despite the right initial idea about Authie and Buron, I then started talking about the North Shores rather than the North Novas.

Re: Researching Romeo R. Fluery

Certainly more digging to be done. The Buron location and his account do make you think of the advance to Carpiquet and the 12 SS counter attack, but NNSH and 8 Bde were in reserve that day. The NNSH did have a messy fight to clear the woods south of Tailleville and make an attempt at the radar stat...

Re: Researching Romeo R. Fluery

Service number is 1 District Depot ( Windsor), so not terribly helpful.

Recommend killing/modifying those links. Don't obviously see those papers but you have exposed a lot of personal info.

Re: A couple of questions related to requesting soldier records

On Q1, you can get records without proof of death. I've only done it via a researcher, though I suspect it can be tried via the ATIP link that now appears on the records request page. Last time I used him $30, about a 30 day turnaround, so makes sense to me to use him all the time if I'm not on site...

Re: Library and Archives Canada WW2 Photo Collection

These are pretty useful. I've always thought there was some value in using the original contact numbers to search from a photo with a good caption (say identifying RRRs) for the ones earlier/later in the sequence that might be related. Never pushed far at LAC, but was led to believe you just had to ...

Re: Rifleman Randolph Hartman Harvin

As much for my own clarity as anything ... From the MFM 1 form Temujin has excerpted above, putting things in correct order (effective date/action/reporting unit): 3 Jul 44 Disembark UK - 2 CIRU 4 Jul 44 Report for Duty - 2 CIRU 4 Jul 44 Reverts to Pte - 2 CIRU 5 Jul 44 To be A/Cpl - 2 CIRU 13 Jul 4...

Re: Rifleman Randolph Hartman Harvin

RWR went into reserve 30 Jul and it was apparently very quiet. Who buys into the theory that his unit is incorrectly identified, he was a Calgary Highlander? They attacked Tilly la Campagne early morning of July 31. He didn't make it back (briefly noted Missing), found and confirmed KIA Aug 1? Edite...
