I think this article answer’s your question George……it looks like he didn’t join the RCAF until May 1943, and then served in Nova Scotia as a mechanic, so he only served until the end of the war, approx 2 years after he joined.

And this record shows “with 9th USAAF” on it…..only thing I could spot that says he served in US Forces
