Relative Research - Arthur (Art) Burns - Royal Canadian Navy

We have recently been approached by a relative who has indicated an interest in researching their Dad's WWII service history. Other than his wartime medals, they do not have much information with which to start their search, including his service number. Based on help we have previously received fro...

Re: WW1 Medal (M.M.)

Hi Temujin. We came across the attached document on the L.A.C. site, that provides a pretty nice summary of documents for the C.E.F. Infantry Battalions, including the 38th, available through L.A.C. It's amazing how much of the WW1 documentation has been digitized. Very impressive. We've all heard t...

Re: WW1 Medal (M.M.)

Thank you Temujin. We will definitely follow up to order a copy of the record, in the hopes that there may be more information available, however the information you have already provided is simply amazing. We will let you know how we make out. We are fortunate to have pictures of him with his unit,...

WW1 Medal (M.M.)

Hello. We recently came across our Grandfather's WW1 Discharge Certificate. We found his service records and the diaries for his battalion on the Library and Archives website, which have been digitized (amazing). There is a notation of 'M.M.' in red, on his Discharge Certificate. Can anyone tell us ...

Re: Wartime Service information Polish Soldier

SUCCESS!!!!! We just spoke with our friend who has confirmed that these records do indeed belong to his father and mother, Boleslaw and Josefa Kowal. We have forwarded to him, a link to the Wartimes.ca site, as well as documents and links provided by Phil and Temujin. Needless to say, he was extreme...

Re: Wartime Service information Polish Soldier

This is utterly amazing. We are in the process of trying to reach our friend to confirm if this is indeed, his father. We noticed that his P.O.W. picture contains the number 152/40. 152 is also referenced as the 'case number' on some of the documents you have provided, with 153 for his wife Josefa. ...

Re: Wartime Service information Polish Soldier

Hi Phil. The first document I opened, although in Polish, contains what appears to be a birthdate of September 11, 1914, so it may indeed be our friend’s Dad. Pretty incredible if this is the case. We look forward to reviewing the remaining files. Thank you so much. Will notify our friend so that he...
