Re: Boer War Carved Pipe

Phil, I have just had a quick look at the database here https://www.angloboerwar.com , and was only able to find two possibilities: Tucker Charles 248 Acting Corporal 1st Battalion Source: Nominal roll in WO127 Imperial Light Horse Tucker Charles Edwain 28238 Trooper Source: QSA Medal Rolls 82th Co...

Montreal Light Infantry

As Phil has just posted a photo from South Africa, I thought I would also post up an item that I have. This is a "swagger stick" (or we would probably call it a "pace stick" today) from 1861, Montreal Light Infantry. It was used by my Father in Law, when he was the Parade Marshall for Royal Canadian...

Re: Boer War Carved Pipe

I have quite a few records of the SA units with Nominal Rolls etc that I can research Thanks, but I think I've got some digging to do before anyone would be able to help. This belonged to...

Re: RCASC 1939-45

I thought it odd too, Temujin. No worries. I did fire off a couple of emails to you, and have just finished scanning a few pages for you to review, another email incoming shortly. His time there should be more present in the files you have access to.. He passed away in 1957, 12 or so years before I...

Re: RCASC 1939-45

Your welcome Mike. I can help you more. I see your grandfather transferred to the RCASC, and their may be more I can help you with that. BUT I probably can help decipher his military records for you, and tell you more “where he was when” so to speak. So if you will like that type of help I will nee...

Re: RCASC 1939-45

Mike, I’m getting a little closer. I found this info: Saskatoon Light Infantry (MG). One half of the battalion embarked on board the "Duchess of Bedford" and the other half on board the "Aquitania". On the SLI (MG) records, it says that 1/2 the Battalion embarked on E6 ........and we KNOW that the R...

Re: RCASC 1939-45

I do appreciate your effort on this, Temujin. Thank you. So I guess the date of 6 December, 1939 in my original post would coincide with their departure from Montreal, not Halifax. Corrrect Mike.....they left Montreal on the 6th Dec, and arrived in Halifax on the 7th Dec. They “may” have then embar...

Re: RCASC 1939-45

Hey Mike.......found the records......I was able to confirm that the Royal Montreal Regiment (MG) was indeed on Trains 4 and 5 from Montreal. Also, the ship they were assigned to was E6 What I have to do now, is try and determine WHICH of the ships in Convoy TC.1 was assigned the number E6....that’s...
