I’ve looked all thru my sources and unfortunately I cannot confirm the Tac Sign of the 45th General Transport Company, RCASC.......so I’ve ordered a book thru Amazon called

Military vehicle formation signs (A Pellona book)
Wise, Terence

And I’m hoping that it “may” contain the information. Book is suppose to arrive between the 19th and 22nd Nov.

In the mean time, I’m still checking other sources (War Diaries of the First Canadian Army Troops for that time period)

I’ve found this information:

35 Cdn A Tps Comp Coy (HQ RCASC First Cdn A Tps) AoS 406
36 Cdn A Tps Comp Coy (HQ RCASC First Cdn A Tps) AoS 1356
45 Cdn Army Tpt Coy (HQ First Cdn Army Tpt Coln) AoS 849
66 Cdn Gen Tpt Coy (HQ 2 Cdn Tpt Coln) AoS 1304
69 Cdn Gen Tpt Coy (HQ 2 Cdn Tpt Coln) AoS 865

And a photo of a Model of a Petrol Vehicle with 45 Cdn Army Tpt Coy, RCASC showing the AoS signs. I realize this is a model so I’m still looking for some “official’ confirmation of the AoS

So, if the above is correct, the supplied by darmoores are indeed of vehicles from the 45th Canadian Army Tpt Coy, RCASC and the number is indeed 849

Phil, yes I’ve seen this information. The issue is, this information is the UNIT’s MOBILIZATION NUMBER, NOT, its AoS number assigned as the unit Tactical number.

So, on mobilization, each unit was issued a Unit Mobilization Number, but then, depending on the organization it was assigned to, it’s Unit Tactical Number (which was painted on the vehicles to identify them) was different

So, for example, here is a unit from the information on the same link you posted from. You can see their “unit mobilization number”s was 529 (in the green box)

Now, here is the AoS number assigned to this unit, as their Vehicle Tactical Numbers which were painted on their vehicles, you can see its AoS number, at this time was 865

As you can see, their Mobilization Number (which NEVER changed) was different than their AoS number (which DID CHANGE, depending to the Command they were assigned to)

Thank you for posting the No 45 General Transport Company, RCASC - Nominal Roll. My father was Private V.A. Moores (later Corporal) and I was happy to also see the name of his best buddy, J. McKenna. I had thought that my father was with No. 47 General Transport Company, RCASC. I don't know if that was incorrect information, or if he was later transferred to No. 47. I have several pictures of him and his unit. Would it be appropriate to post them here?
Was the Victor A Moores in your post above:

Victor Ambrose Moores
1920–1999
BIRTH 21 AUG 1920 • Montreal, Quebec, Canada
DEATH 12 OCT 1999 • Burlington, Ontario, Canada

And reviewing their Service Numbers, John Mckenna joined first in Military District 4 (Western Quebec).....his number D126563 tells us he joined the RCASC (Reinforcements)..........Victor A Moores joined later in Military District 4 (Western Quebec).....his number D126720 also tells us he joined the RCASC (Reinforcements).

If you wish, you could order his military records at LAC, if you have not already done this.

849 is definately the unit sign of 45 GT company RCASC. As confirmed in Malcolm A. Bellis' 21 Army Group Organisation & Markings.
This unit stayed in our town from December 1944 till March 1945. I have copies of their war diary for these months. Will go through them to see if anything interesting turns up.

I posted over at the Maple Leaf Up Forums, we'll see if the good folks over there have any insight into the tac sign.

Yes, Victor Ambrose Moores, 1920-1999, is my father. I just found Library and Archives Canada online, so I will order my father's records, and also my grandfather's records from WW1.

I have an original copy of a picture of the No. 45 General Transport Company, RCASC, Camp Borden Ontario June 1942. I will see if I can get it scanned and enhanced somewhere, but I found a small copy of the picture online. I will post it below.
