PERFECT, you are correct, my only comment is the First MR is the general area they were in…..when reading the war diaires you can see various sub-units moving around into different MR’s. So he “may” have been wounded with any of these sub-units. As we don’t know which element he was with (Squadron or Recce etc) we can’t be sure where he was when, so to speak, we do know he was with HQ Squadron in 1942…..but he may have been moved to other Squadrons by 1944…….and we also know he was a Gunner Operator Group “C” at that time………my gut is telling me as he had additional training on radio’s, he could have been with the “Rear Link’ vehicle (where the Captain was wounded)…….but that is just a guess, I’ve been searching to see if we can find anything that tells us his sub-unit in the Regiment.alroch4 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 12:48 pmI'm back. A recap, my uncle was wounded on August 15, 1945, while on Operation Totalize with 4th Canadian Armoured Division.
The was diary for his unit stated they were at MR 173458. I understand this a grid reference.
173 refers to the east-west coordinate (easting).
458 refers to the north-south coordinate (northing).
Together, they pinpoint a specific 100-meter square on the map.
By cross-referencing the grid 173458 on Sheet 7F4, I came to the area highlighted by a yellow square and dot to approximate their location within that grid square.
I’m I correct?
Good plotting on the grid reference
Cheers
