RCAF, F/O Norman Vincent Crabtree ???

Post by georgetanksherman » Tue Jan 18, 2022 1:51 am

Need help in locating info on an American in the RCAF, F/O Norman Vincent Crabtree, J/107779, trying to find his hometown, was assigned to R.A.F. Sqdn No. 263, flying the Westland Whirlwind, September 29, 1942, transferred to USAAF 94th Sqdn. flying the Lockheed P-38 with fellow Americans P/O W.A. Lovell and Flt Sgt R.I. Reed, F/O Norman Vincent Crabtree then transferred to R.A.F. No. 266 Squadron on August 1944, USAAF Detachment flying the Hawker Typhoon.

I found the info on P/O W.A. Lovell, from Beaver, Pennsylvania and Flt Sgt R.I. Reed from St. Petersburgh, Florida, both would be K.I.A. with the USAAF 94th F.S.

Any help would be truly appreciated !

Cheers

George

Temujin,

I had heard of the Westland Whirlwind, being an aircraft nut and all, as the case, I was trying to find a different airman at the time, and for some reason the page talking about RAF No. 263 kept popping up, so I went to have a look, and found these three Americans from the RCAF mentioned when they transferred to the USAAF, all on the same date Sept 29, 1942, transferring to the 94th Fighter Squadron with P-38's.

Thank You very much for the help on finding the hometown for F/O Crabtree !

Cheers, Back to the research :-)

George

Where I found the info on the Three American in the RCAF

https://www.whirlwindfighterproject.co. ... uadron.pdf

29th Sept 1942

F/O Norman Vincent Crabtree, P/O William Albert
Lovell & F/S Richard Irl Reed, all citizens of the
United States, who joined the RAF about 2 years ago
& who were posted to this Squadron in October 1941,
were honourably discharged from the RAF on taking
up appointments with the USAAF. It is believed that
they will be posted to No.94 Sqn (P-38 Lightning) at
Ibsley. Before they left, F/O Crabtree & P/O Lovell
entertained the Officers & Sgts of No.263 Squadron
to a party at the Somerset Arms, Weymouth.
