RCAF, 428 Sqdn Lancaster, KB764 ... Help
Greetings everyone, need a bit of help getting some info on the crew of KB764 going from St. Mawgan, England to Lagans in the Azores on June 4, 1945. I currently only have the Pilot, Flight Lieutenant Elihu Paul Acree, Baudette, Minnesota, U.S.A.
Lancaster, KB764, June 4, 1945
Aircraft departed St. Mawgan, England, bound for Lagens in the Azores. While flying through cumulus cloud, both port engines began to run erratically. The pilot, Flight Lieutenant Elihu Paul Acree, suspected icing and applied hot air, which had the desired effect on the inner port engine. Half an hour later, the port outer engine again lost power and was eventually shut down. Soon after the port inner engine became erratic. As Acree approached Lagens, with at least 1,816 litres of fuel still aboard, the port inner engine cut entirely. Power was completely asymmetric, and the bomber quickly swung out of control, aircraft cleared the cliffs, but crashed approximately three kilometres out to sea. The port wing struck first and broke off, as did the tail.
Crew:
Pilot: Flight Lieutenant Elihu Paul Acree, RCAF, Baudette, Minnesota, U.S.A. - Survived
Any help with the rest of the crew would truly be Appreciated,
Cheers
George

George
Hi George, I haven’t been able to confirm the above (YET, still looking)………but I have found info on him. He was involved in a number of other “air crashes”…………and I also found a recent list of missions by him, and if you look thru the list on the page, it does give more information on some of the others on your list. You can also see that he served as an instructor pilot on these cards

Only new information I’ve found so far is the date the 15 aircraft left Middleton St George.
On RCAF No Base 64 War diaries, it shows 15 aircraft leaving Middleton St George at the beginning of June for Canada. I am assuming they would have then flown to St Mawgan, then to the Azores and finally 9 arrived in Canada
And, I did a quick map showing the potential route (direct line) from Middleton St George to St Mawgan to Yarmouth

Hello. I’m am a daughter of the navigator on the Lancaster KB764 the ditched into the sea upon approach to the Azores. My parents settled in Toronto, Ontario after the war and stayed in close touch with the pilot, Paul Acree, and his wife, who settled in Rainy River, Ontario. I have few records (most lost when the plane sank) and photos of some crew and their wives. Any interest?
