Greetings everyone,
Looking for the hometown, if possible, on P/O Ernest John Simpson Wood, J/88510, RCAF
Whitley, LA929, March 12, 1944, R.A.F. No. 24 O.T.U.
Aircraft took off from RAF Long Marston on a training flight, Aircraft landed while lost on a training mission. The crew signaled to the airport that they were in distress and were given assistance to land at 17:54 hrs. The crew reported they had been in the air for the previous seven hours and must have mentioned that they were based at 24 OTU in southern England. It was noted by the military in the Irish Army report that there was no one on duty at weekends. All crew members safe, allowed to refuel aircraft and return to base.
