NOTE: the the photo above, one of the POW’s was American.....but he must have been in the RAF or another Commonwealth Country as his rank is “Flying Officer T. M. Watt”

Sorry for the late response Temujin, things have been a bit hectic. Thank You as always for the help on this. I bet it felt a bit strange, being an American with the R.C.A.F. and being "Loaned" out to an American Unit. Hope you are Safe and Health, And Again realy appreciate the help !

Cheers !

Hi George and temujin,

I just got to the loss of F/S Fry and F/S Haglund in the TSGNO errata.

Thought you might be interested in the book by one of the other RCAF WAGs that served in the 12th (Medium) Bomb Group, One Man's Journal-The War Years by D.S. Fraser, self published, 2004, who has references and photographs of these airmen. His point about why they were seconded to this unit was that they were trained on RAF radio procedures in use in the theatre, and could "speak American".

All the Best,

Paul Squires

Hi Again George and temujin,

Should always finish the work before replying.

From the records for F/S Haglund posted by Library and Archives Canada

https://recherche-collection-search.bac ... 0961-00001

it would appear that he was born and raised in Fort Frances, Ontario, and has no connection to Keokuk, Iowa, and is in fact a Canadian, not a US citizen.

As he is listed as buried in a collective grave, I would postulate that one of the other crewmen lost on this aircraft is from Keokuk, Iowa, thus his internment there.

I have noted at least 2 other RCAF airmen, lost on USAAF aircraft, buried in the USA in collective graves with their fellow crewmembers.

All the Best,

Paul Squires
