Canadian Poncho

Hello everyone,

I'm here to ask for your help! I recently brought in a Canadian poncho which is in good condition. However, some parts of the canvas have suffered from time and age. It has hardened in some places and crumbled in others, especially where it was folded. Nothing alarming, it's still in very good condition for its age, but I want to treat these problems now before it's completely damaged and nothing more can be done. I'm looking for advice on how to treat the canvas side, which is a kind of waterproof plastic or rubber. Do you also have any advice on how to deal with the smell?

Thank you in advance,

Saw your post on ww2talk.com. Can’t help you much. In my service in the Canadian Army we used a “simalar’ poncho but it had zippers (not snaps). Same smell…..and there was no getting rid of the smell as far as I know.

Cheers
