Hi all
.
I used to be a member of the old Canada at War site. I am glad to have been directed here to connect again. My family first used the expertise found on the old site to interpret the service file of 2 soldiers. The one I will discuss today is Cpl. Francis Weitzel from WWII. We have been to Normandy several times (twice for D-Day Ceremonies), visited Benny sur Mer ( were Cpl. Weitzel is buried) , discovered the citizens of Buron and Saint Contest.... and have been on quite a journey since then. Our most recent trip was with the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada. Specifically because we and they were celebrating 2 events with the local historical society and the village. The whys and how’s are quite amazing in how we found each other (my husband’ family and the RHFC and the local groups) and ended up in Normandy for the special events this past May.
The Fusiliers were dedicating a new stone marker in the village of Buron to tie the Fusiliers to the Highland Light Infantry (their WWII unit). We and they were also there to help the local historical society, Freinds of Canada and the municipality to dedicate a street named after Cpl. Francis R. Weitzel. If you have files and places to leave info on specific soldiers etc. I can share more of this story and leave other pictures.
The origional site was so rich with material and pages for memories I hope this one will be even better.
