Hi, does anyone have any information on the following Air Gunner:

R253995 FSGT I K IRWIN RCAF

He served with 78 Squadron and then moved to the PFF serving with 35 Squadron. He joined 78 Squadron in the Summer of 1944 from No. 41 Base at RAF Marston Moor. Having completed 4 operations he and his crew moved to 35 Squadron where he completed a further 16 operations. The crew were predominantly Canadian al though the Flight Engineer was RAF and the WOp was RAAF. I have all the information from the 35 Squadron website, but can confirm his forenames or if he was commissioned; which I doubt as he is a Flight Sergeant on VE Day.

I having absolutely no luck on finding this man. Can you give me any dates of months that he moved Squadrons……and I take it he survived the war?

Any other facts would be helpful (I hope)

I’ve done a bunch of research. The crew joined 35 Squadron in Jan 1945. He was a member of the F/O Kenneth Robert Burgess crew. I’ve found a lot of his missions, and when they left 35 Squadron on 24 Apr 1945.

I’ve tried researching K R Burgess to see if I can find any links to his crew (a reunion or something like that) but I haven’t been able to find anything.

So far drawing a blank on I.K. Irwin…..I’ll try some more, sometimes a day later everything seems to pop up when I’m researching……

Some success, I found him on his return from England, his rank is WO 2

And now I have an address so hopefully can go from there……stay tuned
