F/S Robert Lewis Horning Jr. R71714
Hi,
Flight Sergeant Horning was killed Jan. 14. 1942, in the loss of a #22 OTU Welllington DV481.
At the Find a Grave website here is a reference in a paper (from Dundas, Ontario?) that he had recently been married to "a Miss Harding, of Stratford-On-Avon [England]", but there is no reference to this in either the Commonwealth War Graves Commission or the Canadian Virtual War Memorial.

Does anyone have a reference to the name of this lady?
All the Best,

Re: F/S Robert Lewis Horning Jr. R71714
I have just looked for the marriage on Ancestry and am unable to find any marriage relevant to a Robert Lewis Horning in 1942 +/- 5 years.
Re: F/S Robert Lewis Horning Jr. R71714
The article you posted is a bit confusing……..its says he WAS to be married…..but then at the end it mentions his “young widow”…….and I can’t find any documentation that indicates he did get married.Paul Squires wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 2:09 amHi,

I have just looked at the service records for Robert, his death certificate within those, indicate he was single at the time of his death.
Re: F/S Robert Lewis Horning Jr. R71714
I did the same BFBSM with same results. That’s why i reread his newspaper article that he posted and it says in “was” to marry, so I think that didn’t happen. I can find no marriage records on Canadian or English Ancestry sites…..so I agree with you, he wasn’t married.
Cheers

Greetings Temujin and BFBSM,
One of my favorite pages to go to is Find-A-Grave, does not mention a wife, just family.

Hope all is well, Cheers

Hi All,
My Apologies. I misread the article. He was engaged to be married.
I will try not to jump like that again.
Again, sorry to have caused a fuss over just a few words, and Many Thanks for setting the record straight before it gets published..
