Sqdn Ldr Vic Cherry, RCAF No. 418 Sqdn

Post by georgetanksherman » Fri Apr 25, 2025 1:02 am

Greetings all,

Looking for further info on Sqdn Ldr Vic Cherry, RCAF, J/12539, Amarillo, Texas, Assigned to RCAF No. 418 Squadron flew DeHavilland Mosquito, Ser# SZ976, "Amigo Panchito", so far, all my research just states Navigator "Various", so at the moment is unknown. I like putting the whole crew together if it is known, even though my research is for Americans that crossed the border, I believe if they flew together, they should be recognized together. As below, sometimes I get lucky in my research and find a member of the Ground crew, but I also need some help getting info on LAC Richard Weighill, if available. As always, any help truly appreciated.
Gordon-Karen Weighill
My dad was LAC Richard Weighill a ground crew member of RCAF 418 (City of Edmonton) Squadron. His note on the back of a picture of one of his aircraft said "Little Cheeko, the insignia on my kite. The pilot is Texan, he dug it up somewhere" The Texan pilot was S/L Vic Cherry. The real name of the cartoon character was Amigo Panchito on Mosquito FB V1 SZ976, an aircraft of 418 Squadron. The picture was taken between mid March of 1945 and VE Day at either Coxyde Belgium or Volkel Netherlands.
Any and all help and assistance appreciated, Cheers

George
